Portland, OR, March 21, 2022 – Cayuse, a global provider of the market-leading research administration cloud platform, is now serving Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU), a Historically Black Graduate Institution (HBGI) and Minority-Serving Institution (MSI) located in South Los Angeles, California. CDU is a private, non-profit, student-centered university that is committed to cultivating diverse health professional leaders who are dedicated to social justice and health equity for underserved populations. This technology partnership, which includes Sponsored Projects, Proposals S2S, and the Cayuse Platform from the Cayuse Research Suite, will advance the university’s mission for cultivating diverse health professionals through outstanding education, research, clinical service, and community engagement.

Proposals and awards were manually processed at CDU prior to Cayuse, resulting in increased workloads, with growing demands by the school’s faculty. The university needed a solution that could offer not only streamlined processes and automation, but also easier reporting capabilities and cloud-based access for easy collaboration across stakeholders.

Some team members at the university had prior experience with Cayuse at other institutions, so when the time came to evaluate a new solution, Cayuse was a clear choice to consider. “Cayuse is all I knew in research administration,” Montel Rudolph, Pre-Award Contracts and Grants Analyst at Charles R. Drew University said. “I knew it would relieve so much administrative burden on us.”

During the evaluation process, the team prioritized solutions that were not only cloud-based with a focus on data management, but that were easy to use, supported integrations with existing systems, and provided real-time reporting. The team conducted a thorough evaluation and assessment of available options and when they took a closer look at Cayuse, they found that not only could their needs be met today, but that Cayuse could support the expansive growth of the university programs in the pursuit of extramural funding.

“Cayuse came to us at the perfect time,” Perrilla Johnson-Woodard, Director, Office of Sponsored Projects at Charles R. Drew University shared. “An efficient eRA system gives our faculty more time to spend with students which ultimately improves student and faculty satisfaction and engagement, and improves the health of our programs overall. Investment in an eRA system further aligns with the university FY 2021-2026 Strategic Plan—Strategic Goal 3, ‘to secure and deploy resources commensurate with the pace of CDU’s transformation growth’ and Strategic Goal 4, ‘Structure and strengthen internal processes to optimize productivity and efficiency.’ We are excited to begin this journey with Cayuse.”
